Something Interesting’s Happening To The Hair Industry

Have you ever found yourself pondering the future of our industry? Imagining how things might look a decade or two from now? Well, you're not alone. In this article, we're taking a snapshot of where we are now and offering a glimpse into the potential future that awaits us.

Clippers and Cords

Picture this: the evolution of man, from ape to mankind. Now, imagine a similar transformation within our professional community, but this time, think about telephones. Strange connection, right? But bear with me.

Barbers, like myself, often reminisce about our first clippers. Mine? A trusty Wahl Senior. Debates would spark over which was superior – the Wahl, the Andis Master, or the Oster 76. But regardless of your brand loyalty, they all shared one pesky trait: The cords!

Ah, those cords, always tangling up or snagging on chairs. That was until the Wahl Magic Clip entered the scene. The industry's first wireless clipper revolutionized our craft. Today, I stand before you, grateful for this innovation, as I'm sure many of you are too. Little did we know, this was just the beginning.

Brands on the Move

Now, fast forward a few years, and behold brands like Purcy, boasting the industry's sleekest mobile chair. At Freshr, we've long observed this trend taking shape. Brands like GandBPRO are cashing in on mobility with custom bags tailored for professionals on the move.

These companies understand something crucial – the winds of change are blowing, and they're embracing it. But perhaps the most significant leap forward comes from Babyliss with their stackable battery chargers for interchangeable batteries (demo courtesy of Chris Bossio). It's a game-changer, akin to the leap from ape to mankind. This innovation may be another milestone to a pivotal moment in our industry's evolution.

Drawing Parallels

Why am I comparing this evolution to the telephone? Well, think about it. Since the Magic Clip's debut, our industry has been slowly but surely removing its umbilical cord from the traditional experience. We crave flexibility and mobility like never before. It's a natural progression, leaning towards a complete ecosystem overhaul.

While we can't quite predict the future with absolute certainty, one thing is undeniable – the path ahead is illuminated with promise.
